The Wellness Counseling Center
From Word-of-Mouth Only to #1 in Local Search Across Three LocationsFrom Word-of-Mouth Only to #1 in Local Search Across Three Locations
The Challenge:
Before working with Private Practice Elevation, The Wellness Counseling Center had something most practices envy: a genuinely strong reputation. Shannon Hiser had built a trusted name through deep community relationships – referrals from judges, schools, insurance directories, and word of mouth. But the website wasn’t pulling its weight.
In Shannon’s own words from our first conversation: “I don’t think our website is really doing that” – meaning, generating organic traffic or converting new leads. She scored herself a 2 out of 10 for website traffic and a 3 out of 10 for website messaging.
The old site had no dedicated service pages – making it nearly impossible for Google to understand what TWCC offered or rank them for the specialized therapies the team provided (EMDR, play therapy, art therapy, trauma work). Three office locations were buried in a single text list with no photos, no location-specific pages, and no way for someone to see which therapists worked where. The visual design was dated, copy-heavy, and didn’t reflect the warm, welcoming atmosphere clients experienced in person.
Meanwhile, the Overland Park location was critically underperforming – running at roughly 20% of its session capacity, with only about 12 clients per week out of a potential 50–60.
TWCC had a 15-person team and the capacity to serve 375 sessions per week. They were delivering around 210. The website wasn’t helping them get there.
Project Goals:
- Generate a steady stream of new client leads – with a focused push on filling the Overland Park location
- Build dedicated service pages for every specialty TWCC offers, making it easy for Google – and prospective clients – to understand the full scope of their practice
- Reduce reliance on face-to-face networking by increasing organic search discovery
- Rebrand the site to reflect TWCC’s warm, inclusive atmosphere and create continuity from the website to a client’s first office visit
- Establish Shannon and her team as recognized leaders in their niche through educational content and thought leadership
- Increase initial consultation inquiries so Shannon’s team could convert more website visitors into booked clients

Our Approach
We rebuilt the site around the services people are actually searching for.
The old TWCC site had no individual service pages – just a short paragraph listing therapy modalities buried on the homepage. For a practice offering EMDR, play therapy, art therapy, CBT, ACT, trauma therapy, Christian counseling, AutPlay, LGBTQIA+ affirming care, and more, this was a massive missed opportunity. We built dedicated, SEO-optimized pages for every specialty. This gave Google the content it needed to match TWCC with the right searches – and gave prospective clients the confidence to reach out.
We turned the clinician team into a search asset.
One of the strongest decisions we made was investing heavily in the individual therapist bio pages. Rather than a simple staff grid with headshots, each bio was written and structured to rank in Google for direct name searches and specialty searches alike. The result: TWCC’s own bio pages now outrank external directory profiles (TherapyDen, Zocdoc, Psychology Today) when someone searches for a specific clinician. Visitors are spending an average of 60 seconds reading these bios – a strong signal of pre-booking research and high intent.
We gave each location its own presence.
The old site listed three locations as plain text on a single page. The new site gives each location – Harrisonville, Greenwood, and Overland Park its own dedicated section with photos, a pinned Google Map, location-specific descriptions, office features, and services unique to that location. For example, the Overland Park page now surfaces its onsite Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, AUT Play® Certified Therapist, dedicated Play Therapy rooms, group wellness spaces, and sound-dampened private therapy rooms – details that were completely invisible before. This directly supports local SEO, making TWCC visible in Google’s Map Pack for searches across all three service areas.
We positioned TWCC as a content authority, not just a service directory.
Beyond the service pages, we helped TWCC develop educational content built around their unique clinical perspective. Most notably, a resource connecting the Zones of Regulation framework to adult trauma and EMDR – applying a concept typically associated with children to EMDR clients navigating nervous system regulation. Google has heavily rewarded this angle: that single piece of content generated over 35,000 search impressions in just six months, establishing TWCC as a nationally recognized voice on the topic.
The Results
Organic search — clients discovering TWCC naturally through Google — has gone from an afterthought to the single biggest driver of website traffic. In the first seven months after launch, organic search surpassed every other channel and now accounts for nearly half of all website visitors.
Highlight stats:
-
45.4% of all website visitors now come from organic search
- 2,789 organic sessions in the first 5 months of 2026
- 35,000+ search impressions from a single educational blog post in 6 months
- 10–50%+ click-through rates on high-intent local searches

TWCC has also built what we call a “moat of trust” in local search – for brand name searches, the entire first page of Google is now populated with TWCC properties: the website, Zocdoc, TherapyDen, local Chamber listings, and more. Before a prospective client even clicks through to the site, they’ve already seen multiple credibility signals.
Telehealth reach has expanded to six states (Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina, Virginia, Utah, and Ohio), opening a national audience that the old site had no infrastructure to capture.
